Takedown a Possible 2016 Hong Kong Sprint Contestant

November 21st, 2016

Trainer Gary Moore has revealed that Takedown will be set for the 2016 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin in December, if he is successful in Saturday’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m in Perth.

Takedown has undoubtedly returned to racing in career-best form this season, but the talented three-year-old is yet to break through for a maiden win at the highest level; twice a winner at Group 2 level.

A stable representative for Moore, Marc Chevalier told Racing Victoria that he is confident Takedown will perform well under the Winterbottom Stakes conditions, and that his run will determine whether or not he will progress to a trip to Hong Kong.

‘’It looks a good place for a horse that likes to lead and so we go into Saturday’s race with a bit of confidence that he’ll run well,’’ Chevalier said.

‘’It’s probably a tough ask to go to Hong Kong after Perth but we’ll see if he gets an invite and see what happens this weekend.”

Takedown returned to racing this year for a close second in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) on March 5th, before running a credible fourth in the Listed Darby Munro (1200m) a fortnight later.

Running a close third in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships, the Stratum gelding arrived in Queensland for a classy win in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) before finishing second behind Counterattack in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

Ending his campaign fourteenth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11th, Takedown resumed this time for consecutive wins in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m).

Progressing to second behind Voodoo Lad in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) on October 15th, Takedown was last seen finishing fifth in the Group 3 L’oreal Paris Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day, having suffered a laceration in transit.

Takedown is currently available at early 2016 Winterbottom Stakes odds of $7.50 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, following the confirmation of a final field of 12 this morning (November 21st).
