Having returned to racing in typically competitive form this year, Aerovelocity ($4.80) has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in Hong Kong Sprint betting markets ahead of Lucky Nine ($6), Peniaphobia ($8) and Gordon Lord Byron ($8.50) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Aerovelocity justify favouritism and win the 2014 Hong Kong Sprint, or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Peniaphobia ($8)

Returning to racing in slick form this season, talented short course specialist Peniaphobia is aiming to secure a third consecutive race win in the 2014 Hong Kong Sprint and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current $8 odds for success. Finishing outside the places just once in his 14 start career, the Dandy Man colt ran third in a minor over 1200m first-up and second in a 1000m sprint at Sha Tin on October 1st before taking out each of the Amber Handicap (1200m) and Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint most recently. Allocated the ideal barrier 6, Peniaphobia will be partnered by in-form jockey Douglas Whyte on Sunday.

2nd

Buffering ($11)

Allocated the central barrier 8 for Sunday’s Group 1, Buffering’s chance of success took a huge boost when all fellow pace-setters drew outside for their respective tilts at the 2014 Hong Kong Sprint. A four-time Group 1 winner, the Mossman gelding was unable to hit peak condition over four starts through autumn this year, but announced his return to top level form first-up this time when charging home to take out the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) on September 26th. Confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Damien Browne, Buffering’s class and experience is sure to count for a lot in the 2014 Hong Kong Sprint.

3rd

Aerovelocity ($4.80)

Securing seven wins and a further four minor places from his fourteen competitive starts so far, Aerovelocity was surprisingly unable to beat a single runner home in his most recent start, but has claimed several impressive results this year. Charging home to win the Group 2 Sha Tin Vase (1200m) first-up on May 25th, the Pins gelding ran second in the Group 2 Premier Cup (1400m) on June 8th on June 8th; taking out the Group 2 Premier Bowl (1200m) in his only start prior to the Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint (1200m) most recently.
