Race Results – Lord Kanaloa Wins 2012 Hong Kong Sprint

December 11th, 2012

Lord Kanaloa has won the 2012 Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin Racecourse last Sunday December 9, 2012.

The Japanese sprinter won the race by two and a half lengths ahead of Cerise Cherry, who placed second, and Captain Sweet, who passed the post in third.

Australian runner Sea Siren failed to demonstrate her best form and placed ninth in the 1,200 metre race.

Sea Siren was in top form going into the race, winning the Group 1 Manikato Stakes first-up, before finishing second in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic on November 10.

The four-year-old has won three Group 1’s so far in her career and was having her first international race start in the 2012 Hong Kong Sprint.

Trainer John O’Shea was severely disappointed with Sea Siren’s run and had expected her to be in the finish, however, she did not run on.

“She had an ideal preparation, and I’m at a loss to explain the run,” O’Shea said.

“I just want to watch the replay and speak to (jockey) Jimmy (Cassidy).

“She fits the right profile of a sprint winner and had a perfect preparation. I was thinking of going to England but now plans are a little hazy.

“I just want to get her home and possibly look at a race like the T.J. [Smith] on her home track.”
